Mornington Crescent

August 29, 2008

TGIF. So glad for the coming weekend. Dreary week it has been. Down and out most of the time. Sought solace in good music. Amy Milan’s Pour Me Up Another. Belle & Sebastian’s Mornington Crescent. Stereophonics’s A Minute Longer. Dashboard’s The Shade of Poison Trees. Well, at least i did a good job talking to everyone in class. The big masquerade. Learnt that mood swings is not a good course of action. Scrutiny scrutiny.

If there’s one thing to keep my adrenaline up and going, it’s the comex! Feel very excited. Don’t know if I should get my camera now and there. Right now, methinks the choices have been cut down to Sony A200, Nikon D60 & Canon 1000D(steep!) Yes, I’m looking at a SLR. So that means my SAVEFLYJAPAN fund is gone. hur hur. Nevermind, better a hobby, sightseeing experience can always be garnered next time.

Mum made aglio olio today; super happy. But occlusion panic attacks reduced my appetite to a few morsels worth. Stomach’s still not feeling good.

I’m determined to be happy:D and spread my love around wahahaha.

Monday on a good note

August 25, 2008

Monday passed fine. Completed my crown prep with pin amalgam retained and in spite of Dr. Pang’s “it’s very good…margins are nice..tapering is good..well done with the occlusal reduction..” I still get a 3. But oh well, it’s nice to hear nice things:D

Some favourited music churning out from my good ol’ ipod. Whee!

  1. I’m so sorry, The Thrills
  2. Tie one on, Aberfeldy
  3. Hate it here, Wilco
  4. Wish I could forget, The Weepies
  5. Lola, The Kinks
  6. Chains, Sons & Daughters
  7. Lovers in Japan/Reign of Love, Coldplay
  8. Le Fabuleux Destin D’ Amelie Poulain OST

“I’m so sorry” is by far the bestest song i like from The Thrills, dethroning “faded beauty queens” by a mile. Heck the apologetic bit, it’s just good good and good. “Tie one on” has this cute kiddish twang and for some odd reason all I can relate to is shoelaces. Lame, I know. “Lola” is bwarhaha. The great sound makes you want to curl your tongue and drawl lazily and shake your head. It’s very my type of music. Eccentric and totally unexpected.

Sons & Daughters produces very nice and polished indie sound, one notch above The Ting Tings. The intro of Chains is similar to another retro song but as we go further into it I found it extremely catchy. It’s the kind of song you want to dance to. Or tap your feet at least. Coldplay’s latest offering, Vida La Vida the album is refreshing with very promising intros to most of their songs and a cool album art to boot. Lovers in Japan’s my fave. I personally find this album to be very much drifted from mainstream sound. Vida La Vida is overplayed on radio.

Amelie’s OST. What can I say? French music is quirky, romantic and simply in their league of their own.  Anyway, the ost features many pretty instrumentals. (the movie left me baffled though) Of which, one of the song is SUPER similar to the opening theme of O-oku the final chapter. Les Jours Tristes is nicer but i can’t help but expect the next note to flex towards the one on O-oku. One classic, Guilty is like the french answer to Zhou Xuan’s famed song, the one in In The Mood for Love. I loved both very much. Songs like that weather through time without much of a blemish.

Music saves:)

Shahira has been single-handedly managing the entire hong kong exchange programme with very minimal help from densoc. Felt kinda guilty because as an office bearer I should, really offer a helping hand. So on Sunday, i helped to bring the students hailing from FOD, Hong Kong Uni around Singapore, along with Shahira and Meihui.

We trailed around Little India, venturing into the backalleys, exploring little india arcade and mustafa centre. One of the student laughingly told me she thought for a moment that they were in India. I was really useless, lol. They pointed to this indian sweet and asked me what is was. “erm, it’s some form of indian sweets.” was all i could manage. God knows what the colourful thing staring back at me is made of.

Get to make friends! Found angie to be really amusing. She’s chatty and interesting. I spoke to some of the girls like Mandy, Diana and some others, flaunting my very bad canto and even worse local knowledge. I loved their lazy drawl whenever they speak to us in english, which was heavily influenced by their canto accent. Heavy downpours upset our plan to go to Arab St. (was raring to visit haji lane though) I was drenched on several occasions, partly because i simply refused to seek shelter beneath a triumph umbrella haha.

Omg i just realised it was Kanno Miho’s birthday yesterday. Happy belated:D

Sentimental Heart

August 23, 2008

Probably one of the rare moments entering into the foray of korean’s entertainment. Watched this video and couldn’t help but feel touched at Chae Yeon’s public confession of love for KDK, a highly risky move that could either make or break her. In this case, it was, unfortunately, fatal. I donch know who they are, but stilll, you’d got to admit that girl’s got guts of an elephant airing suppressed feelings on national television. Like a schoolgirl’s crush. She threw her own pride away. That’s courageous. And while I dread his response, i’m just glad he’s honest about it.

I’d prescribe She & Him’s Sentimental Heart to heal her heartbroken soul.

Wish I had someone with a 10 year old crush. So sentimental <3 No, isn’t it better to have someone nursing one on you instead? Okay, whoever you are, ‘fess up. I can’t wait all day.

Finally I gave up.

Justine, Huijing & I went for the job interview after school today. Was tired and slightly annoyed having to wait around after school for nothing. Hope to save up as much as I can during the hols, so that i can have my cake and eat it. Want my camera. And a trip to japan come year end.

Gelare’s next up on our agenda, since xiao mei had this precious stack of magic coupons. We indulged in 2 waffle bowls of gelato and oreo cheesecake over an interesting banter. Feel like i have alot to vent, and i’m past caring of what people will think of me once i said a certain something. Like, judge me, whatever. We were quite sneaky towards the end, hyuk hyuk. Enjoyed our little tea break.

Met albert, waikit, liyong while we were there, along with Mel and shengle afterwards. Everyone’s heading to watch the fireworks display, while friendless me is at home catching the ping pong bronze contenders Guo Yue and Li Jia Wei fight it out in a very thrilling battle. Guo Yue was impressive with all that forehands, backhands, all that stunning moves that were delivered with so quick a flash. And Li Jia Wei astound us with a surprising comeback at the 3rd and 4th matches, making Guo sweat bullets.  Erm, china vs china for Gold. How very exciting.

Nobody is pretending it is all going to be roses.

Japanese Film Fest woohoo! Included in the line-up of films we have SAKURAN. My god. My eyes nearly popped when I flipped through 8 Days and there and there Anna Tsuchiya is staring back at me in her kimono with her come-hither eyes, saturated colours of red and green in the backdrop. And to think i spent so many a night trying so desperately to lay my hand on the show. (but i managed it anyway. Though i did not complete the movie in its entirety)

I’m awfully excited to catch this during the film fest. Watching in theatre, i’d imagine it to be so much fun better than staring at my 14″in pc screen. I realised that these good offerings have a penchant for impeccable timing. The screening is extremely close to the occlusion and dm test. Last year’s Sondre Lerche gig was wedged during the finals. And BSS was ’round the exams’ corner. Aiya. an’t afford to think so much. Good stuff don’t come knocking twice.

Dear shuyan shared this with me. Really amazing. We have a rekindling of hope now!

Nothing more than rants

August 20, 2008

Watching all the naughty effervescence escaping with the touch of the PKT on my master cast was all I did the whole afternoon. I wanted so badly to have it signed. But oh well. Can’t be helped. Mama lemon couldn’t mask the lousy collate margins.

My Go Jane’s pretty flats finally arrived! What a pleasant surprise. It’s glossy bright turqoise with a pink rim. Ultra hard to match. I like. Collected the threadless tees today too. Bountiful harvest today I’ll say. Love the “Giraffe United against Ceiling Fans.” The other two was okay.

I hope to submit my very own designs to threadless one day. Then go on an online spree and mop off all my imprints. Bwaharhar. Think it’ll be coolah to have it dental-themed. heh heh heh. I have some fuzzy ideas in mind, donch quite know if i will ever have the time and ability to see them through. *hope hard*><

In fact, it would be even coolah to rival threadless and open up my own. hur hur. Just because I loathed pronouncing threadless tees with the TH. All my price tags will not have any THree. No, not even TH appearing on my webbie. bwaharharhar. The mighty long tongues rule!
